Goose Girl Post 3

I have read for 2 1/2 hours and read 128 pages this week. Isi is now very good with her wind and animal speech. One day while she is working in the royal pastures as a goose girl, she meets a boy named Geric, who says he is one of the prince's guards, and they quickly become close friends. Geric brings her extra food to eat and they read and bond. At a kingdom celebration, Isi sees Geric and the royal family. Ungolad and his guards see her, and Isi narrowly escapes from them taking her away. She is saved by a band of vigilantes that keep the streets safe from chaos and disorder. A while after this incident, Isi returns to Gilsa and Finn's home for a while back in the forest. Once there, she finds out that one of her loyal guards, Talone, is still alive. Talone backs up Isi with the truth of her royal heritage, and they get help from the palace workers to try to stop a war Selia is trying to make up against Kildenree to hide her treachery. Isi and her protective band travel behind the Bayern army to their campsite on the outskirts of Kildenree to try to stop them. Once there, Isi reveals herself to be 'Ani' the real princess of Kildenree. She tries everything she could to convince them, but the king doesn't believe her. Geric is also revealed to be not the guard of the prince, but the prince himself. Geric, the king and his men leave Ani alone with Selia and her guard to discuss this matter, leaving Ani hysterical for her life.

Goose Girl Blog 2

I have read 2 1/2 hours and 102 pages this week. On with the story, Ani goes to the castle to try to convince the king it is her who is the lost princess, when she sees Selia in her clothes, already playing the part. Not wanting to risk getting thrown out of the kingdom by saying she is the rightful princess, or worse, be killed, she quietly talks to the king and accepts the job of protecting his geese. Ani is very blonde along with the people from her country, while in her new country Bayern, everyone's hair is dark. Her old guards are still looking to kill her, so to protect her identity she wears a big hat to cover her hair, and dyes her eyebrows darker. She also changes her name to Isi, short for her middle name, Isilee, which was named after her grandmother. Isi has been knowledgeable with bird speech since she was a child, so she befriends a goose and names it Jok. Although he isn't the easiest to befriend, they end up getting along. Whilst watching the geese one day, Ani learns to understand wind speech, and finds her true name. She also befriends a forest girl who works in the city as well named Enna. After discovering Isi's secret by seeing her hair, Isi tells her everything that had happened. Enna swears to keep it a secret, and they become good friends.

The Goose Girl

I have read 2 1/2 hours and 110 pages this week.  I am reading The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale.  I predict this book to be very good, and it has been good so far.  I am excited to get really into this book and the story.  Shannon Hale is my second cousin, so it will be fun to see her writing skills and ideas in her book. So far, this story is about a crowned princess of the land of Kildenree named Ani.  I can already connect to Ani.  We have the same birthday, and I dislike formalities as well as she does.  Her aunt tended to her until the age of five and taught her to speak with birds, which is unusual and frowned upon by her Queen mother.  Ani is now sixteen, and after the death of her father, her mother tells her she will be leaving the kingdom to marry a prince of another country she has never met before.  All the while, Ani's younger brother will step up in line to become the crowned prince.  Against Ani's desire, guards and her maiden accompany her through mountains and forests to the new kingdom.  A little more than halfway through the trip, Ani's maiden, Selia, turns on her, along with half the guard. Selia is fed up with Ani and her job as a maiden.  She attempts to kill Ani and steal her identity so she can arrive in the new kingdom as a princess.  Ani escapes however, and her guard dies protecting her.  She wanders through the forests until she reaches a house with a woman who takes her in.  Her son and Ani go into the city and Ani lives there tending to the king's geese.
